Ohio home Joseph Arthur was discovered through Peter Gabriel, who signed the folk-stir backward and forward songwriter to Real World Records in the halfway-'90s. Arthur's debut, Big City Secrets, was released in 1997 and went fairly unheeded, despite an eclectic, brooding sound influenced ~ the agency of the likes of Leonard Cohen, Joe Henry, and the ~ly Jeff Buckley. Gabriel influenced Arthur's tune, too, exposing his songwriting to a global palette, roping him into Gabriel's occurring each year WOMAD shows, and giving him a roster of counterpart labelmates...
